I was happy to have the opportunity again to photograph St. George’s Healthcare NHS Trust Long Service and Annual Awards dinner last month. I’ve covered this awards event at the hospital for the last few years, and it’s a great way of recognising the long term commitment given to the NHS by those staff and volunteers who support it with their long service. In the past the evening has been compered by a local celeb, with personal connections to the hospital (Arthur Smith, Nicolas Owen) but on this occasion a bit of performance was added to the festivities. Magician Bob Pound went table to table leaving guests scratching their heads, wondering “how did he do that?” with his sleight of hand and card tricks. At the end of the dinner service a surprise sing-a-long was led by singers who had been posing as waiters the whole evening. Quite a few of the guests were game for a bit of song and dance, but I have to be honest, I have no idea what the swinging napkins was all about… made for a nice photo though!
